Welcome to the organic farm Maurachgut in Gastein!
The bio farm Maurachgut is
situated 1000 metres above sea level in Bad Hofgastein in the Gastein
valley. Enjoy magnificent views of the Gastein's alpine world from our house.
Both in summer and in winter time, the Gasteinertal offers you
numerous recreational opportunities.
The farmhouse is the
perfect location for spending your holidays - it is away from all the
through-roads, surrounded by fields and pure nature, although you can reach the
village centre of Bad Hofgastein within a few minutes by car (about 1,8 km). In
winter you can ski directly to our house, provided the bottom ski runs
are opened. In summer there are walking tracks passing directly our
Our family is now in its 4th
generation as owners of the Maurachgut, which dates back about 1350. We are an
organic farm with a great variety of farm animals: dairy cattle,
sheep, goats, horses, hens and of course cats. We also raise calves. Which
means, when you stay with us, you will be enjoying an authentic farmhousevacation. Especially popular with our guests are our fresh organic milk
and eggs from happy hens as well as all the other homemade products.
Maurachgut is a family owned working organic dairy
farm with several kinds of animals. In summer, the dairy cows and
some calves are staying at our farm. The young cattle and older calves as
well as our horses, sheep and goats head up to our alpine pastures
on the Leidalm. During the winter, they are kept in the barn and fed
good-quality, healthy hay and silage from our own fields. Cats and
chicken are also at our farm. The hens have free access to the great
outdoors and can scratch and peck in the soil, which is their natural behaviour.
They also have plenty of space on the perch and plenty of nesting boxes to lay
their eggs in.
farming - farming in harmony with nature
Organic agriculture is a
sustainable way of farming. It means producing healthy food whilst leaving
the goodness in the land for future generations. Organic farming was developed
more than 60 years ago by several persons, in order to offer an alternative to
conventional farming methods. The task of a farm is to produce healthy, and
above all high-quality foods, and to do so in harmony with the cycles of
nature. And so it was that organic farming became an attractive alternative
both for farmers and consumers.
Beginning in the year 1959, the first organic
associations were founded in Austria, the
predecessors of what would later become
Bio Austria. The switch from conventional to
organic farming at our own farm took place in
1993. The aim was to run our farm as closely to
nature as possible. Strict standards define
what organic farms can and can't do and place a
strong emphasis on protecting the environment.
Our animals are kept in species-appropriate
conditions, including regular outdoor exercise (in
winter, too) and they always receive fragrant,
healthy hay and silage from our organic farm. In the
process, we keep our fields and pastures vibrant,
the water clean, whilst also preserving a habitat
for people, animals and plants. Organic stands for
ethics and extends far beyond healthy food.
